Listener Feedback
It is with great pleasure that I tell you of my dependence on Audio-Digest Obstetrics and Gynecology to keep me updated as to what is going on in my specialty. I attend a minimum of 10 postgraduate courses every year, but frequently I find myself asking probing questions at our staff meetings based on the knowledge that I have gleaned through listening to Audio-Digest.

Once a year, I take my whole year's worth of tapes, steal away to my sailboat, and for a week listen to the tapes almost nonstop. I find this one of the best ways to do a complete review of the specialty.

My first use of Audio-Digest was in 1962. I was on duty at night caring for a newborn with respiratory distress. The baby was given up for dead. I remembered the tape by Dr. Robert Asher on correcting acidosis. I got the tape and player, went to the nursery, and corrected the acidosis. The baby lived, and all were amazed.

My second most valuable contact was in 1969. I was going to Atlanta to take my Pediatric oral boards. I took a bunch of tapes with me in the car. On the way I played an account by Dr. James Hughes on setting up a school program for hyperactive children. My first examiner was Dr. James Hughes. My first question was on how to set up a school program for ADD. Needless to say, I nailed it, and the rest of the exam was a breeze.

We are absolutely delighted with your production of Dr. William Frishman's audiotape, and we are about to distribute it to our alumni. In addition to your production expertise, we appreciate Audio-Digest's willingness to support this effort.

I have been a member of the Audio-Digest family for over 20 years and have enjoyed and used the information in my practice of Internal Medicine for all of that time. I found valuable information while still in my residency many years ago.

Even though I am now retired from practice (since 1989), I still eagerly await each program. I am enrolled in your accreditation program and thus retain my Ohio State license to practice medicine.

In 1986, I decided to leave solo practice and go overseas to work in the field of leprosy. I was assigned to Somalia, in a leprosarium on a small island called Labadaad. Acquiring CME credits in Somalia is just not possible. To keep myself current in Family Practice, I continued to listen to the FP program of Audio-Digest.

After our Somalia experience, my wife and I were assigned to a small hospital in the north of Kenya. Again it was through the Family Practice tapes sent to us by Audio-Digest that I was able to keep abreast of my medical knowledge.

Finally, for the last six and one half years, I have been working as a volunteer in Hansen Hospital in Jerusalem. There are plenty of CME opportunities in Israel; however, most of the teaching is in Hebrew. I elected, therefore, to continue keeping myself up to date through Audio-Digest tapes.

In my particular situation, changing from country to country, sometimes losing contact with Audio-Digest because of postal difficulties, sometimes political difficulties, CME has not been easy. Without Audio-Digest, I would not have been able to keep up with the AAFP requirements.

I became a subscriber by accident. In the course of my research in the medical library where I'd trained as a PA, I opened the wrong file cabinet. There I found the tapes on emergency medicine.

Since that time, I've become a subscriber to four of the series. I save all my tapes, and often go back to listen to them again.

Because some of the speakers are so good, I make a copy of the tape and store away the original. For example, if Diane Birnbaumer orders a pizza by phone, you should record it - something could be learned, I'm sure.

I have been a subscriber of Audio-Digest for 15 years, and have used this method as my primary form of continuing education. Efficiency in primary care requires current knowledge in all areas. I have found my biweekly tapes on various topics to be invaluable. Having the tapes to share with colleagues facilitates a practice of ongoing learning, and certainly improves patient care.

I have enjoyed Audio-Digest for many years now. Keep up the good work. You leave very little for change.

The tapes are not only educational but also practical. As a matter of fact, just this week as I was listening to your current tape on pain management, I had to deal with that very issue on a patient. Your information was extremely helpful.
